ABOUT ME
Hi. My name is Alun, and this is page is a very brief introduction to my writing. I'm not a professional writer. In fact until 2016, I had been a hospital radiographer, working in cancer treatment in Southeast England for almost 20 years. In a way it was difficult for me to give up that work. It was a worthwhile job and of course leaving work meant the loss of a secure income, and it meant parting daily company with many colleagues and friends, some of whom I'd known for many years. So it was a big decision to take, but it was something I felt I had to do, and I have no regrets. Anyway, that part of my life is now in the past.
There was one big plus point to giving up the full time job, and that is that now I have the time to do whatever I please - and believe me, there is plenty that I'm pleased to do! I am a person with many interests in the sciences and in nature, in history and in current affairs. I travel extensively, and indulge when I can in my hobbies which include photography, and collecting all kinds of things from cacti to fossils to model aeroplanes. But most of all, writing is now my hobby. I tentatively started writing on the Internet early in 2011, but for all of my first seven years I only wrote on a 'content creation site' called HubPages - a place where the author composes the words and supplies any images, but the design possibilities are limited to the few templates provided by the site managers. To date, I've published 161 articles on that site. It was an easy place to publish and HubPages also offered a social community environment of fellow members who gave much needed support and encouragement to any new writer like me who was seriously lacking in self-confidence. However, after seven years, the severe limitations in design meant that for me it was time to move on and try to expand my writing horizons. Hence the creation of my first personal website on 7th December 2017, my second on 6th January 2018, and my third on 1st April 2018. This is my fourth.
MY WRITING
My writing at HubPages mostly revolves around all those aforementioned hobbies and interests. Most of my work is factually based, but there's also a few film reviews, and a little creative writing, which was the theme of my first personal website. I've also written many travel reviews, notably about Thailand, and hence the publication of this, my fourth website. This is typical of my travel writing - reviews written from the point of view of a tourist - not comprehensive perhaps, but personal and subjective and illustrated with my own photographs. If you look at any of these pages, I hope you come across something which you like :)
